MIRIAMC

Describe yourself in under 100 words :

I would say I am a walking contradiction. I love the city, but love the country. Love travel, but love being home. Love socializing, but love my alone time. Love material things, but they mean nothing to me. I am easily affected, but strong and resilient. And I am a believer that you create your own life, your own happiness, and I live by the theory that the only difference between perusing your dreams or not, is simply by just by doing it.

Beauty can be defined in so many ways. What is your definition of ‘beautiful’?

My definition of beauty can vary depending of the person and the situation. Sometimes is physical, sometimes its emotional, and sometimes situational. But if I had to pick one, it would be an ability to make others feel comfortable. There is ease about people that can do that, that is very beautiful to me. With doing so, you have to be truly comfortable with yourself, your individuality, your own style that makes you at ease. That is when beauty is the most apparent to me. It is natural and real.

When do you feel most beautiful?

I feel most beautiful when I am happy.

On average how much do you spend each month on cosmetic items such as make-up, hair cuts/colouring, waxing, clothing, nails, tanning, creams etc.

Honestly, quite a bit. My hair went grey at a very young age, and it grows very fast so I have to visit my lovely hairdresser every three weeks. I also get my nails done every couple weeks. I use my hands a lot at work, as well as a life of being an equestrian has taken a toll. I like the look of pretty nails. I don’t tan, but do spend a fair bit of nice face cream, and lipgloss.

Have you ever struggled with confidence, body image or insecurities in your life?

Yes, of course. I have struggled with body image. But I always feel the best when I am doing physical exercise, so I try to stay as active as possible.

Have you ever had cosmetic surgery or treatments?

I have not ever had cosmetic surgery or any sort of medical treatments. It is just a personal thing for me. Although each to their own, I feel people usually look more beautiful without. I love laugh lines, and natural lips, and faces that have lived.

How do we ensure that the next generation of girls grows up with confidence and a strong sense of self when they receive so many messages telling them that they are not enough?

You have to push young girls to do things they love. To travel, to play sports, to read books. Whenever I travel, I come home feeling so empowered and creative. When you feel that way, there is a natural sense of confidence that comes with it.

My dad was big on morals, and values, and I think that has a lot to do with it. You have to give your children high standards for themselves from a young age. My dad always taught me to be strong to my word, my work ethic, and be careful of whom I surrounded myself with. I think it created a sense of self, and mostly good personal choices.

I have a very amazing mother for a female role model. She has always been so self sufficient, and encouraged us to be the same. My mom kept me riding horses when I know it was a very tough thing for her to do. I attribute my work ethic, and higher sense of self and ability to spending my young life focusing on that rather than boys, and hanging out at the mall. I always had to take care of a living thing, and had to be there every day. There is a confidence that comes with responsibility, and work ethic.

Some guys are amazing at making a girl feel incredible about herself…others not so much.  If you could share some advice with the guys out there on how to make their girlfriend/sister/friend feel amazing about herself what would it be?

Don’t judge, just support. Even if her dreams seem crazy, be a supportive person in her life. There are enough personal doubts, trust me… she doesn’t need anymore.

I feel very lucky, because I have an amazing supportive boyfriend. And since we have been together I have be able to accomplish so much more because I never feel I have to justify anything. It is really nice, and creates a happy balance between the two of us.

Sisters

What’s one thing you love about each of your sisters?

Sophie –Her kind heart, and her amazing style…and her ability to call me when I need her before I ever have to ask.

Emily – Her beautiful green eyes and her freckles… and the fact if I was on the moon and needed to get home, she find a way to get me there.

At your shoot we talked a little about the power of connecting with and supporting other women.  Sometimes it feels like women can be competitive with one another in a way that isn’t positive…they can get a little catty!  Any thoughts on how we move past this?

Yes, I choose to not acknowledge it. Women that do things they love inspire me.  I believe that we are each others best allies because there are certain doubts and things that only women understand, and we should all be a source of support for each other. I find that cattiness usually just comes from an insecure place, as the only time in my life where I have been that way has stemmed from being hurt and feeling badly… so I try to be open minded and not take anything personally.

When you were 5 what did you want to be when you were older?

I drew a picture that sits on my mom’s fridge. Apparently I wanted to be a toy store MANAGER. Seems about right.
